Benjamin AubertelCTO Paris · CTPO at JobTeaser · Tech & Product Leader Europe
A CTO who doesn't understand the business is a risk, not an asset. For 15+ years I've turned that conviction into results: scaling engineering organizations up to 200 people, replatforming high-traffic products with zero downtime, driving companies to profitability, and shipping AI that goes beyond the GPT wrapper.
About Benjamin Aubertel (CTO Paris & CTPO)
I'm the Chief Technology & Product Officer (CTPO) at JobTeaser, Europe's number one career platform for students and graduates, based in Paris. I carry both the tech and the product mandate, a scope that's rarer than a standalone CTO title and that keeps roadmap, architecture, and business impact in the same hands.
I joined as CTO in April 2022 and moved into the CTPO role in September 2024. That transition happened in a company past its hypergrowth phase, with an established organization: not a blank slate, not a Series B story. My job was to take that existing business to profitability by cutting operating costs, refocusing the roadmap on high-impact initiatives, and supporting a shift in the business model.
Before JobTeaser, I led engineering organizations of up to 200 people at ManoMano, ran a product and tech business unit at Veepee's Station F intrapreneurship program, headed software engineering at FDJ (Française des Jeux), and spent seven years driving Veepee's digital transformation. 15+ years, one constant: technology only matters when it drives the business forward, with speed and impact.

What I Believe About Tech Leadership
A CTO who doesn't understand the P&L is a liability
I've sat in enough leadership rooms to know that a tech decision made without a business lens is just an expensive opinion. I read income statements and unit economics the same way I read architecture diagrams, and I make trade-offs accordingly. If I can't explain the cost or the return of a technical choice in business terms, I haven't finished the job.
Indecision costs more than wrong decisions
Most technical decisions are reversible. Waiting for certainty before picking a stack, a vendor, or an org structure usually costs more than choosing a reasonable option and adjusting course. I'd rather make a call, measure the outcome, and correct it than let a team stall for months chasing the perfect answer.
Replatforming is a business project with a tech component, not the opposite
I've led replatforming projects on high-traffic products at Veepee, ManoMano, and JobTeaser without taking the business offline. That only works if the migration plan is built around business continuity and revenue impact first, with the technical sequencing designed to serve that constraint, not the reverse.
AI without proprietary data and distribution is a demo, not a product
A chatbot wrapped around a general-purpose model is a weekend project. What makes AI defensible is proprietary data, embedding pipelines, and a distribution channel that already reaches millions of users. At JobTeaser, that means models and vector search built into the matching and personalization that 5M+ students rely on, not a feature bolted on the side.
Great engineering organizations are designed, not grown by accident
Team structure, ownership boundaries, rituals, and engineering standards don't emerge naturally past a certain size. I've built these deliberately across organizations from small founding-stage teams to 200 engineers, and the design choices made early are what save months later.
Applied AI, Beyond the GPT Wrapper
- Product AI: proprietary models, embedding pipelines, vector search (Qdrant), ranking models (XGBoost), and semantic representations (Cohere), powering matching and personalization for 5M+ students
- Internal AI: tooling, workflow automation, and org-wide training to make AI a company-wide productivity lever, not a side experiment
- Pragmatic governance: managing risk, cost, and expectations while shipping to production
